Simon became fascinated with photography as a teenager. He studied photography at high school and later at TAFE whilst also working at the
Australian National University producing images for scientific research.

As a teenager Simon also became hooked on rock climbing and now has
25 years experience under his belt.

He completed a Bachelor of Arts in Outdoor Education at La Trobe University

In 1994 Simon combined his passions for the outdoors, climbing and photography to begin his career as a professional freelance photographer and establishing his business, Onsight Photography. Since then Simon has worked hard photographing across Australia and around the world, in the process creating an extensive body of work in his distinctive style.

Simon was awarded the King Albert Medal of Merit in 2000 for "achievements in the mountian world" and was awarded the Rick White Memorial Medal in 2009 for "outstanding achievement and contribution to Australian climbing". He is the author of two popular coffee-table photography books: Rock Climbing in Australia and World Climbing: Images from the Edge.
